Ohio State, Google partner to accelerate research and AI Fluency

Columbus, September 30 — Ohio State University and Google Cloud announced a strategic partnership to accelerate scientific discovery, expand campuswide technology access, support AI Fluency, and assist students from admission to graduation and beyond. The initiative establishes an on-campus AI space in Ohio State’s Innovation District, including Google DeepMind collaborations, and provides Gemini Enterprise and Gemini Notebook access campuswide through Google for Education. It also launches an exclusive student research ambassador program.

The collaboration is described as one of the largest partnerships between Google Public Sector and any U.S. university, uniting Ohio State’s preeminent research and academic programs with Google Cloud’s full AI-optimized tech stack and high-performance computing power. Researchers will have access to more than 200 AI models, AI-optimized supercomputing systems, and technology from Google DeepMind to drive life-changing scientific discoveries across core research pillars including biomedical engineering, earth sciences, and the humanities.

Ravi V. Bellamkonda, president of Ohio State, stated the partnership unites two powerhouses of innovation to create excellence at scale for students, faculty, staff, and the state they serve, and will accelerate research through the AI (X) Hub, enhance the student experience, and strengthen AI Fluency initiative goals. Karen Dahut, CEO of Google Public Sector, said the partnership puts unparalleled computing power and scientific models directly into the hands of Ohio State’s world-class faculty and researchers, calling it one of Google’s largest and most comprehensive education partnerships to date.

Student-focused initiatives include personalized AI assistants, advanced career pathway tools, and unique experiential learning opportunities. The collaboration will also help modernize campus operations through intelligent infrastructure and cybersecurity automation, eliminating operational barriers for faculty and staff.

This effort aligns with Ohio State’s Residential Experience Transformation initiative designed to strengthen student success and advance President Bellamkonda’s vision for a signature undergraduate experience.
