The attacker used a pump-action shotgun purchased by his mother to breach locked doors at the school just before 1 p.m., according to Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz. The first 911 call came from a person in a vehicle outside the school who reported being shot at by someone with a long gun. Officers arrived on scene within minutes after additional calls came from inside the building. The suspect was found dead inside the school minutes after the shooting was first reported.
