Tate Brothers Detained in US Following UK Extradition Request

Andrew Tate Court Appearance

The CPS didn’t announce charges quietly on a Friday afternoon. They did it on a Saturday. The next day, US Marshals had the Tate brothers in custody.

That is how fast the extradition machine works when it starts rolling. The brothers were arrested on American soil, at the request of UK prosecutors.

Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 37, now face a fresh set of allegations. The Crown Prosecution Service said Saturday that Andrew faces seven additional counts of rape, alongside charges relating to sex trafficking and child pornography. Tristan faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating the trafficking of a person for sexual exploitation.

These charges overlap but are not identical. They bring the total number of alleged victims to seven.

Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division at the CPS, confirmed that figure. He said the charging decisions followed a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police. The timeline prosecutors lay out is long.

The alleged offending spans July 2010 to August 2017. That is more than seven years of alleged crimes. But this is not the first set of charges the brothers will face in the UK.

Back in May 2025, prosecutors confirmed a list of 21 charges against them, for offences said to have taken place between 2012 and 2016. So the sequence is this.

The CPS announced the new charges on Saturday. The US Marshals then executed an arrest warrant. The Department of Justice confirmed the brothers were in custody.

The CPS has stated plainly that it will seek their extradition to the UK. The Tates have previously denied any wrongdoing.

Why were they arrested in the US? Because that is where they were. The report does not say why they were in the United States or for how long.

But the extradition request from UK prosecutors triggered the arrest. The mechanics of extradition are straightforward when the requesting country has a treaty with the host country. The US and UK have one.

For readers watching from the outside, the case now has many moving parts. There are 21 charges from May 2025.

There are the new charges announced Saturday. There is the extradition process itself, which can take months. The CPS has not said when they expect the brothers to appear in a British courtroom.

The alleged victims number seven in total, according to McHaffie. The case has been building for years.

The evidence from Bedfordshire Police now includes the material that triggered the latest charges. The Crown Prosecution Service has assessed it and decided there is a realistic prospect of conviction. What happens next?

The brothers remain in US custody. Their lawyers will likely fight extradition. The UK will present its case to a US court.

That court will decide whether the extradition request meets legal standards. If it does, the brothers will be flown to the UK to face the charges.

The allegations are grave. Andrew Tate faces rape charges that now number in the double digits when combined with earlier counts. Tristan Tate faces overlapping but distinct accusations.

Both have denied wrongdoing throughout. The legal process is only beginning.
