Coordinated Violence Shatters Halloween Weekend in Seven States
DALLAS, November 2, 2026 — At least six people were killed and over 60 others injured in a wave of mass shootings across seven states on Halloween weekend. The violence struck nightlife districts and college communities simultaneously, with the deadliest incidents occurring in Dallas and Birmingham, Alabama. Police in multiple jurisdictions are investigating whether these separate attacks are linked, though preliminary assessments suggest they were independent events.
The scale of the violence was immediate and widespread. In Dallas, three separate shootings in the Deep Ellum neighborhood left four people dead and 15 injured. In Birmingham, a shooting outside the Magic City Classic football game killed one person and wounded eight. Additional fatal incidents occurred in Bloomington, Illinois; Boulder, Colorado; Jacksonville, Florida; and Jackson, Mississippi, while non-fatal shootings took place in Newark, Delaware, and Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Deep Ellum: Three Attacks in Ninety Minutes
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux confirmed at a morning news conference that four people were killed and at least 15 others wounded in three separate shootings in the Deep Ellum neighborhood early Sunday. The incidents occurred at 12:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of Elm Street, 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main Street, and 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street. Comeaux stated that investigators are still trying to determine if the shootings were related, noting that the circumstances remain unclear.

Authorities made multiple arrests, but Comeaux said the involvement of those detained in the shootings remains unconfirmed. Police are actively searching for additional shooters. Witnesses described a chaotic scene where gunfire erupted repeatedly over a span of about an hour and 15 minutes. Jessica Gamboa, a witness, told NBC News, “Right after one shooting, you would hear another shooting, and you would see all the police officers take off running to the next scene. It was a scary and unbelievable night.”
Police sources indicated that at one scene, a man reportedly said he was going to “start shooting” before opening fire. Three people were pronounced dead at one location, and a fourth died at another. Comeaux noted that the department had increased police presence in the district ahead of the holiday, with officers spending the week preparing staffing and response plans. He credited the heightened presence with preventing further chaos, noting that one officer was less than two blocks away when the gunfire began and arrived almost immediately. No police officers were injured in the attacks.
Birmingham: Violence at the Magic City Classic
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett stated that most spectators and families had left the stadium property, but the shooting occurred nearby where vendors were set up along Graymont Avenue. Pickett said he was “very grateful that more people weren’t injured.”
The game, contested between Alabama State and Alabama A&M, drew nearly 70,000 fans. Alabama A&M won the match 31-28. The event is a historic rivalry between two historically Black universities that has been played for more than 100 years. Police spokesperson De’Rell Freeman said one person had been detained and transported to police headquarters for questioning, and “multiple weapons” had been found and secured. The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.
College Towns and Nightlife Districts Struck Nationwide
Violence also erupted in several college communities and other urban centers. In Bloomington, Illinois, a 19-year-old woman died and seven others were injured in a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University. In Boulder, Colorado, two University of Colorado Boulder students were shot at a house party, one fatally. Police responded to the house to address a noise complaint shortly after 10 p.m. and shut down the party before a second call reported a shooting around 11:30 p.m.
In Jacksonville, Florida, a 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man were fatally shot in a pair of unrelated shootings at Halloween parties that left 11 others with injuries. The girl was an unintended victim in a crowd waiting to enter a party around 1:45 a.m., while the man died after a fatal fight broke out at a house party. In Jackson, Mississippi, a man and a woman were fatally shot and two others were injured at a nightclub before 2 a.m.
In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot late Saturday near the University of Delaware campus. All six were transported to hospitals for treatment. University President Laura Carlson wrote to the school community, stating, “We are all impacted… I ask that you keep the victims in your thoughts and hearts as they receive care.” In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds from a shooting early Sunday, with a preliminary investigation indicating an altercation preceded the violence.
Investigations and Public Safety Concerns
Authorities across the affected states are conducting parallel investigations. In Dallas, detectives are interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses. Chief Comeaux urged anyone who was in Deep Ellum during the shootings to share cellphone video, photos, or other information with police.
The simultaneous nature of the attacks across seven states has raised questions about the coordination of the violence. While Dallas police indicated the three shootings in their city were not connected, the broader pattern of violence during a major holiday weekend has prompted scrutiny of security measures. Police presence was increased in nightlife districts before the incidents, but their effectiveness in preventing the initial outbreaks of violence remains a subject of ongoing review. The scale of the injuries, with over 60 people wounded, underscores the severity of the weekend’s events.
Local officials have emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigations. In Bloomington, Indiana, no deaths were reported from a shooting near Indiana University’s homecoming, though seven people were hospitalized. Police in Bloomington, Indiana, and other jurisdictions are continuing to gather evidence and determine motives. The incidents occurred on Halloween weekend, a time when public events and gatherings are common, exacerbating the impact on communities.
The next scheduled update on the status of the investigations and the identities of the victims is expected as local police departments release further statements. In Dallas, the police department has provided contact information for tips, including a direct line to Sgt. Boz Rojas. The full extent of the casualties and the connections between the various incidents will be clarified as forensic evidence is processed and witnesses are interviewed.
