Sara Gilson killed by estranged husband after TikTok pedophilia claim

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 25 — Sara Gilson built a following on TikTok by sharing fashion finds she genuinely used. Now her account, where she posted as a hairstylist and mother, has become evidence in a murder-suicide investigation that has left two children without their mother. Gilson, a fashion and lifestyle influencer with over 40,000 followers on the platform, was allegedly killed by her estranged husband Shawn Duffey, according to reports from the Tulsa ABC affiliate on July 23.

The couple was found dead in their Oklahoma City home after a fatal shooting. A juvenile family member who was present at the scene told investigators that the separated couple died by murder-suicide.

A public accusation, then silence

Two weeks before her death, on or around July 9, Gilson used her platform to make a stunning accusation. In front of her 43,000 TikTok followers, she accused Duffey of pedophilia and insisted the couple were “soon to be” divorced. The accusation was public, direct, and came from a woman who built her online identity around relatable lifestyle content — her bio stressed that her fashion videos only featured “Amazon finds [that] I actually use.” Duffey never publicly addressed the accusations before his death.

Whether he denied them, offered an explanation, or remained silent by choice is unknown.

Who Sara Gilson was

Beyond the follower count and the fashion hauls, Gilson worked as a hairstylist. She was a mother to two children from a previous relationship, who now survive her. Her TikTok presence blended her professional life as a stylist with the kind of accessible, real-person content that resonates on the platform — not aspirational luxury, but things she actually bought and used.

The contrast between her online persona and the violence that ended her life is stark. Her account showed a woman curating outfits and sharing beauty tips.

In her final weeks, it became a place where she aired a devastating accusation against the man she was separating from.

An ongoing investigation

The investigation into the alleged murder-suicide is ongoing as of publication. Law enforcement has not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, the condition of the juvenile family member who witnessed the scene, or whether Duffey had any prior history that might have foreshadowed the violence. The Tulsa ABC affiliate’s report did not specify the age of the juvenile who spoke to investigators, nor the relationship between that young person and the deceased couple.

What is known is that Gilson used her voice, weeks before she died, to make a serious accusation against her husband. She told her followers she was leaving the marriage.

Whether anyone in her real life — friends, family, employers — knew the full picture is part of what investigators are likely trying to piece together. For the two children Gilson leaves behind, the aftermath will unfold far from the platform where their mother shared her life. The TikTok account that once featured Amazon finds now stands as a digital record of a woman who saw danger coming and tried to name it publicly, before the violence caught up with her.

The case will remain under review as Oklahoma City authorities continue their work. No further statements from law enforcement have been released since the initial reports on July 23.
