Gartner Cites Esker\u2019s AI Suite in Leader Ranking for Accounts Payable

LYON — The 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Accounts Payable Applications names Esker a Leader. That headline is straightforward. What matters more is what Gartner actually evaluated: Esker’s AI-powered automation suite, built for the Office of the CFO.

Accounts payable has long been a back-office slog. Paper invoices.

Manual data entry. Endless exception handling. Esker’s recognition rests on its claim that AP can shift from transaction processing to a strategic finance role.

The company’s software automates manual tasks, streamlines exception management, and ties AP more tightly to broader financial operations. Invoice volumes are rising.

Processes are growing more complex. Regulatory requirements keep evolving. Esker argues its approach helps organizations achieve best-in-class outcomes under those pressures.

Gartner agreed enough to put Esker in the Leader quadrant. This is not Esker’s only recent analyst accolade. The company was also named a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Accounts Payable Invoice Automation Software, Q2 2026.

Forrester’s analysts pointed to Esker’s vision for customer centricity and its AI-powered communication tools for internal users and suppliers in dispute workflows. That matters.

Dispute resolution is a pain point in AP. Slow resolution means late payments, strained supplier relationships, and manual workarounds. Forrester noted Esker’s system makes that process seamless.

Esker itself framed these evaluations as confirmation of its vision for AI-powered finance. The company said the recognitions demonstrate its commitment to helping AP teams keep pace with evolving demands.

That is standard corporate language. But the pattern across two major analyst reports — Gartner and Forrester — suggests something more than boilerplate. Both reports looked at the same core capability: AI applied to accounts payable.

Not AI as a buzzword. AI that actually automates tasks, handles exceptions, and connects AP to the rest of finance. That is a specific technical claim.

Gartner and Forrester both bought it. The timing matters.

AP automation is a crowded market. Many vendors offer invoice processing, approval workflows, and payment integration. Few have been placed as Leaders in both Gartner’s Magic Quadrant and Forrester’s Wave in the same year.

Esker now holds that distinction. The company’s suite is designed for the Office of the CFO — not just the AP department.

That positioning reflects a broader shift. Finance leaders want AP to do more than pay bills on time. They want data, visibility, and control.

Esker’s pitch is that its AI delivers that. What remains to be seen is how many organizations actually make that transition. Recognition from analysts is one thing.

Real-world adoption is another. Esker’s customer base will be the ultimate test of whether the AI-powered approach delivers on its promise.

For now, the company has two independent analyst firms saying it leads the market. That is a strong signal in a competitive space. The details in the reports — AI-powered exception handling, seamless supplier communication, strategic AP transformation — give concrete reasons why.
